Cairo, March 26, 2024 - During the celebration of Egyptian Doctor's Day, Egypt Healthcare Authority and Takeda Pharmaceuticals signed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic partnership to support the healthcare system for cancer patients in Egypt. This agreement will establish an integrated practice unit for the treatment of cancer patients in collaboration with prestigious international institutions, in light of strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors to provide globally standard healthcare and to develop cancer treatment services in Egypt.
The signing was attended by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Awad Tag El-Din, the President's Advisor for Health and Prevention Affairs and former Minister of Health, His Excellency Oka Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, Dr. Osama Abdel Hay, the General Syndicate of Doctors in Egypt, Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare, and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance and Decent Life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Rodrigo Rodriguez, Head of the Ukraine, Middle East, and Africa region at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and Dr. Samy Khalil, General Manager of Takeda Egypt for Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, the head of the General Authority for Healthcare, expressed his happiness in signing the memorandum of understanding between Egypt Healthcare Authority and Takeda Egypt, as part of the celebration of Egyptian Doctor's Day for the year 2024. He noted that this memorandum is a key step to enhance strategic partnership between Egypt Healthcare Authority and Takeda to strengthen capacities for developing healthcare, especially in the field of oncology treatment. Establishing an integrated practice unit for oncology treatment within the healthcare facilities of the Authority in the comprehensive insurance provinces and developing a specialized training program for service providers represent a firm commitment of Egypt Healthcare Authority to provide the best healthcare services for patients in Egypt.

El-Sobky added, "At Egypt Healthcare Authority, we believe in the importance of strategic partnerships with the private sector in achieving our health objectives, and we see Takeda Egypt as a reliable and committed partner in improving healthcare and providing innovative medical solutions." He affirmed that this partnership and the implementation of joint programs would contribute to improving the quality of life for patients and enhancing the level of healthcare to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the field of healthcare in Egypt and the Middle East and Africa region in general.
On his part, Dr. Samy Khalil, General Manager of Takeda Egypt for Pharmaceuticals, emphasized that the company believes in the importance of supporting sustainable healthcare and continuous advancement in the field of medicine and treatment. He also expressed his delight as Takeda Pharmaceuticals is a part of the significant transformations in the health sector in Egypt, in accordance with Egypt's Vision 2030. This involves establishing an integrated practice unit for the treatment of cancer patients in cooperation with esteemed international entities, which includes highlighting and analyzing the journey of the cancer patient in order to improve the healthcare provided in Egypt to be in alignment with international standards and to uplift the level of Egyptian patients' satisfaction with the medical services, along with the replication of similar units in Egypt.
Under the memorandum of understanding, both parties agreed to collaborate in order to support the establishment of an integrated practice unit for the treatment of cancer within the healthcare facilities of Egypt Healthcare Authority in the comprehensive insurance provinces. In addition, they will develop a specialized training program for service providers in the Authority's healthcare facilities to be trained on the latest medical operation management methods in Oncology. This also includes establishing performance quality indicators to measure the program success in improving patient outcomes and adhering to international standards. Furthermore, they will conduct research and analytical studies on cancer diseases, enhancing patient care, and disseminate it with scientific and international institutions and bodies.
