Farida Osman, one of Egypt's best-ever swimmers, qualified for the semi-final in the women's 100m butterfly at the Rio Olympic Games as she seeks to at least replicate her achievement at last year's World Championship.
The 21-year-old finished fourth in heat 4 in 57.83 seconds to go through. Her overall rank was 12th.
She will compete in the semi-final later in the day.
Osman made history when she became the first Egyptian to reach the semi-finals in the 50m butterfly at the World Championship last year, eventually finishing fifth in Kazan, Russia.
