Egypt's men handball team take on Poland in their third group stage game at the Rio de Janeiro Games on Thursday in a buoyant mood after recording a stunning win over the mighty Sweden.

The Pharaohs snatched a late winner to claim a 26-25 victory over the London Games silver medalists on Tuesday, making up for an opening 27-26 loss to Slovenia.

They lie third in Group B with two points, two behind joint leaders Germany and Slovenia. The top four teams will qualify for the quarter finals.

The match against Poland will take place at 16:30 Cairo time (14:30 GMT).

Egypt's men volleyball team can also take heart from a 3-0 victory over Cuba when they meet Russia in Group B, also on Thursday. They suffered an opening 3-0 loss to Poland.

The beach volleyball side, whose photos went viral on social media because one of the two team members wears the Islamic hijab, face Canada after two losses against Germany and Italy.

Egypt's rower Abdel-Khaleq El-Banna features in the men's single sculls semi final and swimmer Ali Khalafallah takes part in the men's 50m freestyle contest.
