Egyptian judoka Ramadan Darwish was out of the Rio Olympic Games on Thursday after losing to 2015 World Championships silver medalist Karl-Richard Frey of Germany.
Darwish, 28, lost by Ippon in the repechage of the 100kg event in 3 minutes and 11 seconds, to Frey who had won the bronze medal in the 2014 World Championships and the silver a year later.
The Egyptian champion has had a tough draw in this event as he defeated Dominic Dugasse of Seychelles in round 32 before taking on Cuban and pan-American champion Jose Armenteros in round 16.
The six-time African Champion stunned Jose Armenteros, the 2014 World Championships silver medalist, by Yuko in 3 minutes.
But then Darwish stumbled against Elmar Gasimov of Azerbaijan by Ippon in the quarter finals before seeing his last hope of a medal fade away against Frey.
