Egypt's defender Ahmed Hegazi broke his nose in Friday's African Cup of Nations opener against Zimbabwe, but the West Bromwich player will be available for the coming matches according to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

"Scans revealed that Hegazi broke his nose during Friday's match," reads a statement by EFA on Saturday morning.

The former Ahly player was fighting for the ball in the 32nd minute when he was injured in a collusion with one of Zimbabwean defenders.

"According to the team doctor, the player will remain in the team's camp and will train and play the coming matches normally after taking the needed measures," the statement added.

The Pharaohs grabbed a narrow 1-0 over Zimbabwe to go top of Group A. Egypt, who are record seven-time African champions, will face DR Congo in their next game on Wednesday, before meeting Uganda in their last Group A match on 30 June.

With Javier Aguirre at the helm, the Pharaohs are optimistic about winning the precious title of AFCON champions for the first time since 2010, the last of their record seven victories.
