On 24 October, Egypt’s Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx will be lit up blue in a global celebration of the United Nations' 70th anniversary.

More than 200 other landmarks across 60 countries will be illuminated in the UN’s official blue color to commemorate the event.

The landmarks include Australia’s Sydney Opera House, Rio de Janeiro’s statue of Christ the Redeemer, New York’s Empire State Building, Russia’s Hermitage Museum, Jordan’s city of Petra, Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa, Spain’s Alhambra, the United Kingdom’s Edinburgh Castle and Westminster Hall, South Africa’s Table Mountain, and Japan’s Sky Tree Tower.

According to UN Information Centre in Cairo’s website, Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that “participating in this campaign offers Egypt the unique opportunity to showcase our commitment to the UN principles of dignity and prosperity for all.  We are pleased to partner with the UN to light up the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, one of the oldest civilizations in human history, and the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.”
