Following Egyptian actor Kamal El-Shennawy's death on Monday, his grandson Nour El-Islam has decided to postpone the release of his single, scheduled for Eid Al-Fitr (Islam's three-day feast following Ramdan).
Entitled Lama Tebosilha (When You Look at Her), the song's lyrics are by Magda Soliman with music by Khaled Bakri.
El-Islam hails from an artistic family; his father is the director Mohamed El-Shennawy and he is the grandson of Aleya, sister of the legendary singer Abdel Halim Hafez. He started singing at a very young age and was advised by his late grandfather to study singing and music at the Higher Institute for Arabic Music, where he studied Arabic and Western singing. There he also mastered oud (Oriental lute) and piano.
His grandfather Kamal El-Shennawy died on Monday 22 August at the age of 89 after a career spanning 63 years in Egyptian cinema. He took on major roles in over 200 films and television series, producing five of them. His films include Al Less wal Kelab (The Thief and the Dogs), which is based on a novel by Naguib Mahfouz; the political thriller, Al Hareb (the Fugitive) written by Raafat El Meehy; and Al Karnak, also based on a Mahfouz novel.
