Graffiti artist honours Egyptian whose murder was a trigger of the Egyptian Revolution

Khaled Said

A portrait of the Egyptian martyr Khaled Said, who was brutally beaten to death by two policemen in Alexandria, has been painted on the notorious Berlin Wall.

After Zahraa Kassem received the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation human rights award for 2011 on behalf of her martyred brother, the graffiti artist Andreas von Chrzanowski, aka Case, on 19 September painted Said’s portrait on two pieces of the Berlin Wall, one taken from near the Brandenburger Gate and another from the Postdamer Platz.

The finished piece will be placed on the banks of the Spree River in the Freedom Park.
