Cairo's popular English-language radio station NileFM released on Wednesday their take on the famed 1930s Christmas song ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town.’
The cover features the station's most promising voices, who add the personal touch of ‘Santa Claus Is Coming to Cairo’ while mostly staying faithful to the original tune and lyrics.
The song exudes a joyful atmosphere and the lovely spirit of the station's team.
This is the third year in a row where the NileFM team has presented their version of a Christmas song.
In 2014, they covered Mariah Carey's ‘All I Want For Christmas’. The following year they gave their take on Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’.
In previous years, the singers stretched their imagination, their enthusiasm turning the songs into musical chaos with lyrics sung completely out of tune.
These past experiments brought the station mixed reviews from the listeners, some praising the team for their bravery, others strongly criticising the covers.
This year, however, the team clearly chose the best voices and took the time to give the entire production a more musically pleasing presentation.
Although the station mentioned “slaying” this year’s choice of song, the few vocal glitches that are present are compensated by a more balanced delivery and a warm, festive feel.
The station is expected to air the song repeatedly in the upcoming weeks and post its video clip online.
Established in 2003, NileFM 104.2 operates under Nile Radio Productions (NRP) and focuses on international music chart toppers.
