As part of a monthly programme hosted by Darb 1718 and curated by Zawya Arthouse Cinema, Cairo-based filmmaker Karim Shaaban’s Fi Youm (In a Day, 2015) will be screened on 21 May.
Written, directed and co-produced by Shaaban, In a Day explores the story of six characters who have lost hope, dignity, life and their sense of security in a country in which they had previously placed their faith. The film illustrates the parallel loss of faith by the country itself in each of the characters.
According to the screening's description on Facebook, the film inspects “the silent moments when everything stands still” in which “the characters ponder their lives in retrospect of what once was.”
The film stars Ali Quandil, Fatma Kamal, Nadine Emile, Raafat El Bayoumi, Lana Mushtaq, Mostafa Darwish, Nora Saafan and Wafeeq Abu El Soud.
Zawya's Sunday Screenings programme spotlights local filmmakers and films that examine local issues.
Programme:
Sunday 21 May at 8 pm
Darb 1718, Kasr El-Shamaa St., Misr El Kadima, Old Cairo
