A new comedy, Wa’fet Regala, has been unveiled by Synergy Films as the very first Egyptian film for 2021, with its popular cast attracting millions on social media. Last week, Synergy released the film's trailer which reached over 10 million views until date.

With a screenplay written by Haitham Dabbur, Wa’fet Regala stars renowned Egyptian actor Maged El-Kidwany, leading a reunion trip for boyhood friends Bayoumi Fouad, Sayed Ragab, and Sherif El-Dessouky where comedy explodes and issues become complicated.

The crew also combines younger generation stars like Mohamed Sallam and Amina Khalil, among others, under the helm of director Ahmed El-Gendy.

Produced by the Egyptian leading production company Synergy Films, in collaboration with Misr International, New Century, and other companies, Wa’fet Regala's promo has gained a wide viewership, with spectators expressing excitement to see some of their favourite actors in one film.

Dates of the release haven't been officially announced yet, and it's not clear if the film will be screened in theaters or release on an internet platform.

With movie theaters operating in Egypt under strict safety measures against the global pandemic, a few 2020 Egyptian films are still screening in various venues, alongside many Hollywood and other foreign films.

Amir Ramses’ acclaimed drama, Curfew, which stars Elham Shahin is still out there, alongside thriller El-Sandok El-Aswad that sees Mona Zaki's return to the silver screen after years of absence; and comedies Saber W-Radi, El-Khetta El-Aayma, Lees Baghdad, and Al-Ghasala.
