Egyptian Lolaky singer Ali Hemeida dies at 73

The artist's health condition deteriorated after suffering from kidney failure

Egyptian singer and frequent actor Ali Hemeida, most known for the 1980s pop hit Lolaky (If It Weren't For You) passed away on Thursday at the age of 73 after suffering from a kidney failure, head of the Actors' Syndicate Ashraf Zaki said in an official statement.

Hemeida's health has recently made newspaper headlines, especially after the state has agreed to treat him on its expense.

Born in Marsa Matrouh in 1948, Hemeida rose to fame in the 1980s cooperating with Hamid El-Shaery's generation of singers and songwriters in their golden years of pop,. He released many albums and singles after his smash hit Lolaky.

Hemeida appeared in several television series such as Ala Eish (2020), Omar and Diab (2020), Mamlakit Elghagar (2017), Qahwat Bursat Misr (2019), and Asad Sinaa (2016).
