Following her short visit to the Syrian refugee camps in Jordan yesterday Tuesday 11 September, the hollywood star and UN special envoy Angelina Jolie will travel to Turkey on Thursday 13 September to visit Syrian refugee camps near the border with the conflict-ravaged country, a Turkish diplomat told AFP.

The Oscar-winning actress, accompanied by UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, will probably visit a camp housing 12,000 refugees in Kilis province and may visit a second camp in Gaziantep province, the diplomat said.

Jolie, who first visited another refugee camp in Turkey in June last year, will also travel to Ankara for talks with officials. On Tuesday, Jolie visited a refugee camp in Jordan where she appealed to the world to "do everything they can to support these refugees" fleeing the escalating conflict in their country.

Turkey, which shares a 910-kilometre (560-mile) border with Syria, is home to some 80,000 refugees in several camps in its southeast. Ankara has called for safe zones to protect people on Syrian soil, but the proposal fell on deaf ears at a UN Security Council meeting last month.
