Prominent Egyptian theatre director and critic Hanaa Abdel Fattah was awarded the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Culture Award this week for his work promoting Polish culture internationally. He is credited for bringing recognition to Polish arts and culture in Egypt and the Arab world.
Abdel Fattah, who has translated numerous works of Polish poetry and prose into Arabic, joins a group of distinguished prior recipients including Italian author and theatre director Eugenio Barba, German journalist Martin Pollack, and Chinese translator Yi Lijun.
Abdel Fattah, an Egyptian professor of theatrical arts, theater director and critic, was previously awarded the Polish Literary Syndicate [ZAiKS] Prize, and The International Theater Institute (ITI) award for promoting cross-cultural dialogue between Poland and the Arab world.
The award ceremony took place in Warsaw (Poland) on 26 November.
