Television channel DMC is for the first time presenting a sign language version of a Ramadan television series, with Zelzal (Earthquake) starring Mohamed Ramadan.

The move comes in light of DMC's concern for special needs audiences, including those who are deaf. The channel plans on offering sign language versions of other series in the future.

The version also includes Arabic subtitles for those who haven't learned sign language and have hearing impairments.

According to Al-Ahram Arabic news site, Egypt has seven million deaf and mute people, and the Arab world has 16 million.

This prompted the channel to take the initiative to create an inclusive viewing experience for all its viewers by hiring a team of specialists who will also help with future offerings.

Zelzal is an action series directed by Ibrahim Fakhr and written by Abd El Rahim Kamal.

Alongside Mohamed Ramadan, the show stars Hala Sheeha, Majed El Masry, Hanan Suliman and Mohamed Al-Hennawy.
