Three remarkable Arab singers — Fairuz, Sherine, and Nancy Ajram — are listed as top Arab artists on the newly launched Spotify EQUAL initiative.
Kicking off on International Women’s Day, Spotify EQUAL puts the spotlight on “women artists; podcast creators locally, regionally, and internationally via activations; new content experiences; on- and off-platform support; and partnerships,” the platform reveals on its official website.
Spotify’s EQUAL initiative highlights the contributions of female artists locally, regionally, and internationally by establishing global partnerships, activating their presence on the platform, and giving new content, in addition to providing them with support inside and outside the platform.
The Equal campaign also includes supporting the voices of women through the new EQUAL department.
In its promotional YouTube video focusing on female artists, Spotify is encouraging users to “flex their power to listen and discover more women creators, today and every day.”
The EQUAL’s list of most-listened female artists is based on listening data from 1 January to 22 February with Taylor Swift at the top, Ariana Grande in second place, and Dua Lipa at third.
Back in November 2020, Spotify launched SAWTIK, an initiative embracing the Middle East and North Africa’s female artists on the regional level.
EQUAL gives women artists an opportunity to be celebrated and promoted internationally.
