Egyptian-British actor Khalid Abdalla to play Dodi Fayed in The Crown

Egyptian-British actor Khalid Abdalla has been cast as Dodi Fayed, Princess Diana's boyfriend, in the popular Netflix series The Crown.

Abdalla will play opposite Elizabeth Debicki, as Diana the princess of Wales, in the highly-anticipated fifth season, scheduled for release in 2022.

The Crown "follows the political rivalries and romance of Queen Elizabeth II's reign and the events that shaped the second half of the twentieth century," according to the IMDB.

The Crown series has been receiving numerous Emmy's since 2018. So far it has been nominated for 63 awards, winning 21 Emmy's. During the most recent Emmy's Awards held last week, the series garnered awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor (Josh O'Connor, as Prince Charles), Outstanding Lead Actress (Olivia Colman, as Queen Elizabeth II), Outstanding Supporting Actor (Tobias Menzies, as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh), Outstanding Supporting Actress (Gillian Anderson, as Margaret Thatcher), among others.

Previous Emmy's for The Crown include awards for the script, production design, period costumes, and cinematography for a single-camera.

Born in 1980 in Glasgow, Scotland, Abdalla came to international limelight after starring in the 2006 Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA-winning film United 93.

He played Amir in The Kite Runner which he produced, and acted with Matt Damon in Green Zone, his second film with director Paul Greengrass.

His filmography also includes The Square (2013), a documentary directed by Jehane Noujaim. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 86th Academy Awards. It also won three Emmy Awards at the 66th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, among other recognitions.

Abdalla starred in Tamer El Said's 'In the Last Days of the City' (2016), which won the Caligari Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival (2016) where it was also nominated for the Best First Feature Award.

Abdalla's most recent appearances include roles in television series, such as Moving On (2019), Hanna (2019-2020), and Chino Moya's film Undergods.
