With Cher and her then-husband’s, Sony Bono, hit on the one hand and Aziza’s Arabic remake on the other, the tune creates an irresistible urge to dance under the disco’s glitter balls, with the Lebanese musician exploring deeper meanings through the lyrics.

Enveloped in the disco genre, the song Mn Hadid became the singer’s vehicle to get her message over. It’s nostalgic, but futuristic, and in the right hands timeless.

The song carries a strong message of giving an empowering voice to women or anyone who lives in fear and accepts abuse in all its forms.

In the music video, Aziza wears a metal arm guard that represents her inner strength.

Since its release last month, Mn Hadid accumulated over 400 thousand views on YouTube.

The international hit Bang Bang has been performed by numerous known singers, including Nancy Sinatra shortly after Cher’s release. Egyptian singer Dalila also adopted the song into her repertoire, performing it in Italian.

The two and a half minute Mn Hadid is just the beginning of Aziza’s disco journey, with her second album — ‘Disco Drama’ — set to be an all-Arabic disco tribute to the golden days of the 70s and 80s.

But there’s also another reason why Aziza decided to turn to disco. After the lows brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Beirut port blast, Aziza wanted to immerse herself in ‘pure nostalgia’, as she explains.

“I decided to do this album after being silent for a while, witnessing the world going mad around me,” she commented.

Disco Drama is a journey in time, a time machine that transports us back to the fun good old days of the 80s.

Aziza is a Lebanese singer and songwriter whose musical world combines classical Arabic tarab with pop music.

She’s performed all over the world, including in Mexico, Italy, Paris, London, and extensively across the Middle East.

Aziza has also collaborated with Anghami for her 2018 World Cup track ‘3alamna Wahed’ (‘Our World is One’).

She released her self-titled debut album in 2014, which featured a mix of sounds inspired from the region, including Chaabi Egyptian and Lebanese folklore.

The Lebanese singer then followed that by covering the popular Egyptian song ‘Salat Al-Zein’ in 2016, before releasing an original track called ‘Orkos Maaya’ two years later written by Mohammad Rifai and composed by Mohammad Yehya.

This was then followed by ‘Waynik Ya Beirut’, a track inspired by the trauma caused by the Beirut port explosion.

In the same year, Aziza wrote ‘In My Own Skin’ for Paris fashion brand AZ Factory in honour of late designer Alber Al-baz, which also focused on female empowerment, celebrating female strength, confidence, and inclusivity.
