Veteran Egyptian TV actor Ahmed Khalil dies aged 80 of COVID-19

Veteran Egyptian actor Ahmed Khalil, who starred in dozens of successful TV series, died on Tuesday at the age of 80 due to health complications caused by COVID-19.

Many Arab artists have expressed mourning over the death of Khalil, whose funeral was held after the noon prayer at the El-Shorta Mosque in Cairo’s Sheikh Zayed district.

Khalil had faced health problems during the shooting of his latest TV series ‘Ella Ana,’ which is currently airing. The series also stars veteran actress Mervat Amin and Ashraf Zaki, the head of the Actors Syndicate.

Born in Daqahliya governate in 1941, Khalil studied acting and appeared in a number of theatre plays during his youth, before working in the Arabian Gulf in the 1970s. He finally returned to Egypt with his role in ‘El-Sakia Tadour,’ eventually becoming one of the most popular TV actors.

His TV works include ‘Hawanem Garden City’, ‘Hadith El-Sabah Wal-Masa’a’, Zaman Emad Eldin’, ‘Bawabet El-Halawany’, ‘Abou Hanifa El-No’man’, ‘Emra’a Men Zaman El-Hob’, ‘Opera Aida’, ‘Mahmoud El-Masry’, ‘El-Emam El-Ghazaly’ and ‘El-Fetewa’, to name but a few.
