The iconic puppet show Boogy and Tamtam is back on the screen this Ramadan.

Boogy w tamtam

The show was a children's favourite for 18 years since it was first aired in the 1970s until it stopped in the 1990s.

Based on two characters carrying the title names, the show follows their endeavours in life and Egyptian society.

Each of the two characters represents a specific set of values which they reveal while being exposed to situations, and as such they present a moral message.

Each year, the puppets evolved and presented a new theme filled with ideas engrained in the Egyptian culture as it also evolved in its social and economic contexts.

Although the muppets addressed the youngest generation of viewers, they always gathered families in front of the television in the minutes following the break of daily fast. They remain in the hearts of millions of Egyptians two decades after the passing of their creator and the show director Mahmoud Rahmi.

The show features the voices of Younes Shalaby (Boogy) and Hala Fakher (Tamtam), alongside a number of other well-known Egyptian stars, including Mohamed El-Sharkawy, Ibrahim Kamal, Ahmed Azmy, Hassan Mostafa, and Galal El-Ashry.

The show will be screened at Maspero Zaman, a channel affiliated with the Egyptian Radio and Television Union at 6.30pm and repeated at 10am, and Watch It streaming platform.
