Manchester's Curated Space is hosting an exhibition entitled Saints this month, featuring paintings and a short film produced by contemporary Egyptian artists Yara Mekawi and Fady Galal. The show, which runs from 26 to 30 August, draws inspiration from the saintly figures featured in the literature of Nobel prize-winner Naguib Mahfouz.

A maverick at documenting the social dynamics that shape life in modern Cairo, Mahfouz (1911-2006) was also a literary wizard, bringing surreal, supernatural figures into his tales.

In this Manchester exhibition, visual artists Mekawi and Galal produce artworks that are influenced by one of the superstars of Arabic literature.

Held in collaboration with Curated Space director and curator Andy Brydon, Spirits is supported by a grant from the British Council.

Curated Place is an arts-led production company that delivers, creates and curates contemporary exhibitions and events on an international platform, according to its website.
