Mere Real Things by Ayman Ramadan at Townhouse Gallery (Photo: courtesy of event's Facebook page)
Ayman Ramadan displays a collection of household items that were once essential to every home, and explores how the passage of time and advert of new technologies may have robbed them of their purpose, and how they can be seen in a new light.
In Mere Real Things, Ramadan questions, “When does a thing become an artwork? And once it becomes an artwork, can it ever go back to just being a thing again?”
Ramadan was introduced to the art scene when he started working at Townhouse Gallery in 2000.
After participating in workshops and meeting with artists, he went on to have his first solo exhibit at the venue, and has since become a conceptual artist displaying his work internationally. His previous video work Iftar has been screened at the Tate Modern in London.
The exhibit opens 15 February, at 7 pm, and will run till 11 March
