As one performer said, "The whole world is a circus; we are a small circus within it.” Change at the circus, like many other government departments, is slow in coming.
John Perkins, a British photographer, has been following the circus around Egypt for four years. He has accumulated a series of photographs depicting their lives, on and off the stage.
A selection of these photographs will be showcased in Townhouse’s First Floor Space, alongside an installation of circus objects, in his exhibition entitled “Mr President’s Circus.”
Performers from the circus have been invited to perform during opening night.
John Perkins will also be leading a workshop "The Picture Story" in which participants brings a series of pictures on a chosen theme to examine together how long-term photographic projects work.
The exhibition opens on Sunday, 22 May at 7.30 pm and will run until 15 June
