Based in Athens, Farida El-Gazzar will display a collection of works centering around a fabled Egypt in a solo exhibit titled Dream City.

Dream City is drawn from El-Gazzar’s old family photos, recreating them in pencil and acrylic drawings, and a personal collection of photos of Cairo and Alexandria from her annual vacations in Egypt.

Architecture, plant and idealised family mythology are all subjects tackled by Gazzar in her minimalist style, with all the drawings placed in golden frames.

El-Gazzar is represented by Kalfayan Gallery, Athens, which recently displayed her work at Art Dubai 2015.

Born Alexandria in 1975, El-Gazzar went on to graduate from Athens’ Vakalo School of Arts and Design, earning a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree from London’s Kingston University, and a Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art, also in London.

Programme:
The exhibition opens 28 April at 7 pm and will run till 26 May
Gypsum Gallery, 5 Ibrahim Naguib Street, Ground Floor, Apt 2, Garden City.
