The One and the Multiple

Wednesday 8 Dec 2010

A collaborative exhibition between Egyptian and Spanish artists titled 'The One and the Multiple' will be inaugurated on 14 December

The One and the Multiple

The One and the Multiple, an exhibition born from residency exchanges between institutions in Spain and Egypt during 2008 and 2009, will open on 14 December in the Artellewa gallery with an inauguration featuring street performances by participating musicians, Nork Zakarian and Magdi Mostafa, as well as Sylvie Astié, a.k.a DJ Saasci  from France and the Sudanese band, Al Wazza.

First shown at la Capella in Barcelona, Spain from May to June 2010, the exhibition deconstructs cultural and artistic preconceptions, showing the unity of the Mediterranean and the irreductible individual diversity of its artists. Using  photography and video – although there are also maps, interactive installations and embroidery – the artists investigate the complex realities of our contemporary societies.

This exhibition is collaborating with the Noshokaty Foundation, a recently-started project for contemporary art education, which is installed in a nearby space.
