A special exhibition of works by Syrian artist, Ali Ferzat, will open at the Cairo Atelier gallery (Atelier du Caire) on 14 September, in association with the Museum of Caricature in Fayoum and the Egyptian Cartoonists Association.
On Thursday 25 August Ferzat was beaten by masked gunmen for his criticism of the Syrian regime. The incident angered human rights activists and artists.
Ferzat has published his work in Syrian, Arabic and Western newspapers, including Le Mondein France, and won many national and international awards, including first prize at the Damascus Caricature Festival in 1980 and 1982, first prize at the Sophia International Festival in Bulgaria in 1987, and the Dutch Prince Claus Award in 2002.
The exhibition will open at Cairo Atelier on Wednesday 14 September at 7 pm.
