Ahram Online , Friday 13 Jul 2018

The discussion is organised by the Australian Embassy, and will feature Australian speaker Ms Lee-Ann Buckskin and Egyptian art and theatre producer Mohamed Hashem

The Australian Embassy in Egypt will host an evening presenting and discussing Australian indigenous art on Wednesday 18 July.

The evening is organised with Hashem Productionz, an arts and theatre production company founded by Mohamed Hashem.

Hashem will be leading the discussion – alongside Australian arts manager Lee-Ann Buckskin – which will focus on the contribution of indigenous artists, as well as the importance of women in art both locally and internationally.

“The session will discuss the art of dance and visual art, associated with a connection to land and environment and the spiritual beauty of indigenous creativity through many mediums and expressions of freedom,” the event description reads.

An indigenous Australian herself, Buckskin works closely and often with indigenous artists, and much of her work focuses on indigenous cultural preservation, promoting cultural heritage, and developing policies for national arts management, in addition to using art for mentoring youth and in activism.

Buckskin is the deputy chair of the Australia Council Board, the Australian government's arts funding and advisory body, Aboriginal Strategy Executive Consultant at the South Australian Film Commission, and a member of the National Museum of Australia's Indigenous Advisory Committee, Co-Chair of Tarnanthi Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Arts in Adelaide, and Juror of the Contemporary Adelaide Design Competition.

Registration for attending is required as seating is limited. Send a WhatsApp message to 01025896648 with hashtag #AustraliaArt to register.
