The exhibition Multipolar World by Fabian Edelstam will open 10 February at Misr Gallery.
Edelstam’s work tries to bridge past and present by depicting modern themes and portraits in the style of ancient mosaics.
“Some pieces are missing, others are in disorder, just like the fragments of a childhood memory that is being reconstructed, or should I say, exorcised?” the artist says in his statement.
Edelstam was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1965. He has lived and worked in Paris since 1990.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Beckmans School of Design and Fashion in Stockholm and a second degree from the art school Acadèmie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.
Since 1997, Edelstam has completed a large number of high profile commissioned portraits, between London, Paris and Milan, including the portraits of Giorgio Armani in 2004, Ralph Lauren in 2009, former president of the Swiss Confederation Adolf Ogi in 2011, and Queen Silvia of Sweden 2013.
His work is in private collections around the world, including in France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
Programme:
