Christie's April sales to include Mahmoud Saïd's 'Around Cleopatra's Bath'

A Christie's sale in Dubai, 17-18 April, will include works by contemporary international artists and Egypt's late Mahmoud Saïd

Marsa Matrouh – Vers le bain de Cleopatre (Marsa Matrouh - Around Cleopatra's Bath), 1959, one of the key works by the father of modern Egyptian art, Mahmoud Saïd, will be included in Christie's April sale of modern and contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish art.

Other highlights include pieces by Ayman Baalbaki from Lebanon, Jewad Selim from Iraq, Louay Kayyali from Syria, Mohammad Ehsai, Parviz Tanavoli and Nasrollah Afjehei from Iran, and Burhan Cahit Doğançay and Azade Köker from Turkey.

The highest value lot in the sale is a work by contemporary Iraqi artist Ahmed Alsoudani, whose work has been sold internationally.

Saïd's 'Around Cleopatra's Bath' comes to the sale from an unnamed private Egyptian collector. The painting is valued at $250,000-$300,000.

The sale will take place 17-18 April at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai.

A press conference and viewing will take place on Sunday 15 April at 11:00am.
