Bibliotheca Alexandrina to hold 7th edition of Draw and Discover Competition

Ahram Online , Wednesday 27 Oct 2021

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina will be holding the 7th edition of its ‘Draw and Discover Competition’ from 28 October to 25 November.

Asclepius

The competition is part of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum’s educational activities targeting youths aged 15-21.

Draw and Discover focuses on the mythical character ‘Asklepios’ (also known as Asclepios), the Greek god of medicine and the patron of the ancient guild of doctors.

The competition was inspired by the recent discovery of a rare piece featuring Asklepios that was found by chance during the Al-Muhammara archaeological excavations. The entire collection is exclusively showcased in the museum.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina stated that participants will be required to draw one of the most significant artefacts held within the Museum and research its origins.

The winners will be awarded six valuable prizes: three for painting, and three for research.

The competition encompasses two categories:

Drawing

Participants draw the artefact in question, focusing on its details. The image of the item is available on the Museum’s website

Research

Participants must accurately research the aforementioned historical figure and author a paper on the topic that is no less than six-pages-long.

An introductory online lecture will be delivered in order to assist the participants in their research, the date of which will be announced later.

For more details about registration and enrolment, interested applicants can contact the museum at +203 4839999, ext. 2386.
