The exhibition of Mohamed Bakr's works will launch on 25 February in Photopia's space in Masr Gedida, just a couple of days after the start of Cairo Design Week (23 February - 3 March), and continue until 10 March.
The exhibition includes Bakr's most significant cinematic portraits taken over his 50-year-long career selected from over 2,000 of his photographs.
"The exhibition will include about 100 images from 80 films. They are mostly portraits of stars in diversified historical stages of the [Egyptian cinema]," the exhibition organizers revealed in a press release.
Throughout his decades-long career, Mohamed Bakr highlighted the most prominent cinematic scenes from over a thousand cinematic films. Bakr got to know numerous stars from the arts, politics, culture, sports, and science. His best-known works include Naguib Mahfouz's trilogy (Palace Walk, Palace of Desire, and Sugar Street) directed by Hassan El-Emam.
His other photographs come from the sets of films such as The Bullet is Still in My Pocket, The Mummy, Maabodat El Gamahir, The Water-Carrier is Dead, Al-Fetewa, The Nightingale's Prayer, Abnaa El Samt, and other memorable works by great directors and featuring the biggest stars of the Egyptian cinema.
The exhibition comes almost in parallel with yet another showcase of Mohamed Bakr's work during the upcoming 25th Ismailia International Festival for Documentary and Shorts (28 February - 5 March). The Ismailia festival will pay tribute to the Egyptian director Shadi Abdel Salam, presenting an exhibition of the director's work behind the scenes and in front of the camera, as captured by Mohamed Bakr's lens.
