The Mashrabia Gallery for Contemporary Art launches "A Book and a Painting," a project by children’s book illustrator Sahar Abdulla in which youngsters are guided across the history of modern Egyptian art through an illustrated book.
The book, entitled Hekayat Fenoun or The Tales of Arts, aims to introduce visual art to primary school children by exposing them to the pillars of modern Egyptian painting.
Artists such as Adly Rizkalla, Gazbia Sirry, Georges Bahgoury and Tahia Hallim, whom are considered to be the most prominent Egyptian artists of our times, are presented to children in Sahar Abdulla’s book.
The exhibition, which will run until 4 October at Mashrabia Gallery, features drawings especially conceived by Abdulla for the “Fanoun Stories,” accompanied by annotations that tell the artful story to children.
The book and exhibition are both funded by the British Council’s Grants to Artists Programme.
