Highlights of Cairo Photo Week 2025

Cairo Photo Week, curated by the Photopia photography school, launches its fourth edition (6-18 May) under the theme Finding the View.

It is expanding its venues across Downtown Cairo and New Cairo for the first time.

The festival brings together many image-makers, including photographers, visual storytellers, researchers, editors, videographers, filmmakers, art and fashion directors, food and fashion stylists, make-up artists, and digital creators.

This edition spans genres from documentary and photojournalism to cinematography, experimental fashion, food photography, contemporary art, digital media, NFTs, and art direction.

The New Cairo segment runs from 6–16 May at the Cairo Design District. The main programme in Downtown Cairo takes place from 8–18 May, centred at Radio Cinema, with additional venues including Mashrabia Art Gallery, AUC Tahrir Square, Kodak Passageway, The Garage, The Hangar, and The Factory.

More than 150 artists will exhibit their work in group shows, featuring names such as Abdelsalam Moussa, Coucla Refaat, Nirvana Bebars, Aisha El-Shabrawy, Ahmed Hayman, Yehia El-Alaily, and Nermine Hammam.

 Through Their Lens: Gaza Untold Stories, an exhibition featuring work by Gaza-based photographers, will spotlight the ongoing war in Gaza.

Two solo exhibitions will also be presented: A Sense of Place by Vincent Van de Winjaard and Al-Qahira 90 by Randa Shaath.

The festival will feature speakers from across the globe, including the Netherlands, the UK, Turkey, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, the US, Iran, Tunisia, Palestine, Lebanon, Kuwait, and Austria.

Cairo Photo Week will host 69 talks featuring international institutions such as the National Geographic Society, Getty Images, Fujifilm, Vigor, World Press Photo, and Photo Vogue.

A total of 27 discussion panels will be held, with titles including Beyond the FrameThe Algorithm Hates BoringExploring Places and Visual Identity, and Reclaiming the Egyptian Identity Through Art and Fashion.

Other events include three networking sessions, three photo walks, five artist talks, three live demo photoshoots, book discussions, portfolio reviews, lectures, short film screenings, and educational workshops.
