Graffiti/new expressionism exhibition at Mashrabia

Ahram Online, Wednesday 2 Mar 2011

On 6 March Mashrabia opens a new exhibition where graffiti meets new expressionism. Prepare yourself for Amre Heiba’s take on 'Still Life'

Amre Heiba

Works by Amre Heiba presenting mainly still life, acrylic on canvas, are described as a cross between graffiti and new expressionism.

Heiba's new work causes the viewer a sense of disorientation. Although it represents scenes of daily life, time and space remain undefined - almost suspended. Human beings and animals are part of the scenes, but the artist treats them as objects, reason for this exhibition's provocative title: Still Life.

The exhibition opens on 6 March at 7pm and runs until 7 April.

Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art, 8, Champollion St., Downtown - Cairo

Opening hours: daily 11am - 8pm, closed Fridays
