An event co-organised by the Nadine Shams Association and Merit Publishing House will be held on Tuesday, 24 June to celebrate the launch of I Am the Director, a book by the late scriptwriter Nadine Shams.

Shams died on Saturday, 22 March, days after what her family says was a medical error during an operation.

The celebratory event will kick off with a seminar about the book, with directors Mohamed Khan and Samir Seif as speakers and film critic Essam Zakareya moderating the discussion.

Musicians Maryam Saleh, Mostafa Rizk and Ahmed El-Sawy will perform and ballet dancer Hany Hassan will present a dance from Zorba.

Two exhibitions will be held in parallel to the seminar, focusing on books on cinema as well as film posters.

The night will also feature a presentation on efforts taken so far to create a network to safeguard the rights of medical patients, which is supported by a number of institutions and human rights organisations that are united in their anger over the poor standards of healthcare in Egypt.

Details about the Nadine Shams association for scriptwriters, which will award an annual prize for young scriptwriters, will also be presented on Tuesday.
