Cairo Drive, a 2013 documentary about the capital's streets, is part of the institute's fall activities centred on the topic 'The Environment'

Cairo Drive

Cairo Drive, an Egyptian-American documentary, captures the mayhem of the Egyptian capital's streets.

Directed by Sherif El-Katsha, the 2013 production received the Best Arab Documentary prize at Abu Dhabi Film Festival in the same year.

For a total of 77 minutes, the Egyptian-American director rides with the city's various motorists: taxi drivers, ambulance drivers, traffic police and ordinary citizens, all of whom show the unwritten rules of navigating Cairo's streets.

The film was shot between 2009 and 2012, and includes shots of citizen traffic police that filled the streets during the early days of the January 2011 uprising after police forces disappeared.

Cairo Drive is El-Katsha's third long feature. His earlier works include Butts Out (2006) and We're Watching You (2007).

Programme:
Sunday 12 October, 7pm
Address: Mahmoud Azmy Street, Zamalek
