Prominent Egyptian film critic brings together the multiple strands of cinema through the internet

Egyptian film critic Amir El Emary has launched a new website for film discussion and criticism called Ain Aal Cinema (Eye on the Cinema).

The website was created by New Horizon, a company based in London, that has been established to produce low-budget documentary and feature films and to provide filmmaking workshops.

In his introduction to the website, El Emary writes that online journalism has taken a leading role in today’s world, surpassing radio broadcast, television and newspapers. It has opened a window not constrained by any limitations and can give the reader information about events as they happen. It also provides a platform for discussion, presenting point of views, analysis and different ideas.

The website aims to use the technological advancements to its benefit by reflecting on all that is happening in the world of cinema in the Arab region and beyond, from opinions and comments to in-depth criticism, research and detailed coverage of film festivals.

It will also present and introduce new book releases on cinema, while giving importance to cinematic history and memory.

Amir El Emary is an established film critic and is based in London. He has published several books, studies and reviews in a number of newspapers and magazines.

He has been a jury member in a number of international festivals, including the Oberhausen Festival in Germany, the Teheran Film Festival for short films in Iran and the Cannes Film Festival.

He was the head of the film critics' association from 2001 till 2003, the head of the Ismailliya Film Festival in 2001 and the editor-in-chief of Al Cinema Al Gadeeda (The new cinema) magazine from 2002 till 2003.
