Short film by Egyptian filmmaker Basim Magdy to compete at Rotterdam film festival

Contemporary Egyptian artist Basim Magdy's film will compete at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam, which kicks off on 21 January

The Many Colors of The Sky Radiate Forgetfulness, a short film by award-winning Egyptian artist and filmmaker Basim Magdy, will compete among 20 short films at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam (IFFR).

The 44th edition of the festival will run between 21 January and 1 February. 

Magdy was born in Assiut in 1977, and received his BFA in painting from Helwan University in 2000. His diverse oeuvre includes works on paper, film, and paintings, among others. Last March, he won the Abraaj Group Art Prize for his previous film The Dent. The award ceremony took place on the sidelines of Art Dubai.

The Tiger Awards Competition for Short Films 2015 "comprises an eclectic mix of 20 short feature films, experimental films, and creative documentaries from all over the world," the festival's website announced.

Magdy will be competing for the top prize alongside entries from the USA, France, Canada, Singapore, Norway, Germany, Vietnam and the Netherlands. The competition boasts 10 world premieres.
