Google dedicated its doodle to the late Egyptian filmmaker Youssef Chahine on Sunday, presenting him behind the camera, following on from other Egyptian figures marked in recent years.

25 January marks the birthday of Youssef Chahine (25 January 1926 – 27 July 2008), who was among the most prominent Egyptian filmmakers with experience in the industry reaching back to the 1950s.

Among Chahine's most notable films are Bab El-Hadid (Cairo Station, 1958), Salladi the Victorious (1963), Al-Ard (The Land, 1969) and Iskandariya Leih? (Alexandria, Why? 1971), Al-Mohager (The Immigrant, 1994) among other remarkable films whose number exceeds 40.

Google has often devoted its doodle to anniversaries, shedding light on many famous international events and figures.

On several occasions the doodles have included an Egyptian theme, such as two doodles released in July 2014: one dedicated to late Egyptian actor and filmmaker Farid Shaqki and the other celebrating prominent Egyptian author Sohair El-Qalamawy on the 103rd anniversary of her birth.

Google also published a doodle about Egypt's 2012 elections.
