Hybrid Reels, organised jointly by Zawya, Room Art Space and Seen Films, is a programme of non-fiction film screenings, which further extends to a series of workshops, talks and discussions examining the power and role of documentaries in society.
According to Zawya's press release, one of the programme's main goals is to realise "the potential, both in the past and present, for experimentation and creating films that surpass the limits of the conventional."
The programme starts on 7 May with a three-day workshop on documentary film by Rania Stephan, looking into the documentary-making process from writing to editing, and examining the different forms filmmakers have depicted reality on the screen.
On the same day Room Art Space will be hosting a discussion moderated by Mansour Aziz, which will be, according to the description by Zawya, "tackling international and regional examples of documentary films that have contributed to a shift in public opinion or influenced a change."
