The open call for participant films for the upcoming edition of the Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) began 15 August and will run until 15 December.

Selected films are to be announced by the beginning of January 2016.

LAFF head Sayed Fouad earlier announced that the upcoming edition of the festival, which comes under the slogan "Egypt in the heart of Africa," will run 17-23 March 2016.

Late Egyptian cinema icons Omar Sharif and Faten Hamama appear on the fifth edition’s poster. The still is from their film Seraa Fel Wadi (Struggle in the Valley) and is designed by Ahmed Siam.

According to the festival’s Facebook page, the film was shot in Luxor in 1954.

Italian actress Claudia Cardinale, American actor and director Danny Glover and French actor Pierre Boulanger, who starred alongside Sharif in Monsieur Ibrahim (2003), will deliver their personal reflections on the late Omar Sharif during the festival’s opening ceremony.
