The first film collaboration between Morocco and Egypt, El-Morsy Abo El-Abbas, will premiere at the 31st Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries.

The film’s title, El-Morsy Abo El-Abbas, borrows from the name of a 13th century Andalusian Sufi pir, who came to Egypt from Morocco, where he settled and founded a family.

The film is inspired by the pir, yet the events do not follow his biography. The dramatic theme centres around a search for identity, tolerance despite difference and that one should not judge a person by their past, but by their actions.

Directed by Amr Mansour, with a scenario by Josef Fawzy, the film is based on the story written by Atef Abd El-Latif.

El-Morsy Abo El-Abbas was shot in both countries, with a mixed cast including Egyptian actors Sabr Abdelmoneim, Lotfy Labibm Soliman Eid, and Moroccan actors Youssef El Guindy, Elham Bou Aziz, Ebtesab Wakdir.

The 31st Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries will take place between 3 and 9 September.
