A documentary about a Syrian family, A Syrian Love Story, has been nominated for the "oustanding debut by a British writer, director or producer" prize at this year's British Academy film awards.
British filmmaker Sean McAllister directed the documentary, which follows the lives of a Syrian couple, Raghda and Amer, over five years, as the Syrian revolution unfolds.
The film was released in September 2015. It won the Special Jury Award at the Biografilm Festival, which took place in in Bologna, Italy, and the Grand Jury Award at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival. It has been nominated for several other prestigious awards, including Best Documentary at the British Independent Film Awards.
The BAFTAs will take place on 14 February.
Also nominated in the "oustanding debut by a British writer, director or producer" category is Theeb, a drama film directed by Jordanian Naji Abu Nowar.
