Following its US premiere as part of the Palm Springs International Film Festival (1-11 January), the Palestinian film '3000 Nights' by Palestinian filmmaker Mai Masri premiered in Ramallah on 8 January, and is currently being screened in Nablus, Palestine.
The film was released in Nablus’ Cinema City on 15 January where it will screen until 22 January.
This comes a few days following the film's premiere in Ramallah, which was attended by Palestinian Minister of Culture Ehab Bseiso as well as Mai Masri, and actors Maisa Abd Elhadi, Raida Adon, Abeer Haddad, Hana Chamoun, Youssef Abu Warda, Hussein Nakhleh and George Khleifi.
According to a press release by MAD Solutions, a Cairo-based company that specialises in public relations and marketing for the film and entertainment industry, the Ramallah screening was attended by people with first hand experiences of Israeli occupations.
The press release read that the film was attended by “several women who experienced imprisonment in Israeli prisons and a number of activists interested in national and institutional events from inside and outside Nablus.”
At the Ramallah premiere, director Mai Masri received three honourary shields from An-Najah National University, The Civil Society of Nablus Governorate (CSNG) and the Al Masri Family for “her efforts in supporting the Palestinian cinema."
Co-produced by Palestine, France, Jordan, UAE, Qatar and Lebanon, '3000 Nights' centres on a young newly-wed Palestinian school teacher who is jailed in a top-security Israeli prison where she eventually gives birth.
Earlier this month, 3000 Nights made its US premiere at Palm Springs International Film Festival in California. It also made its Arab world premiere in December 2015 as part of the Dubai International Film Festival’s 12th edition where it participated in the Muhr Arab Feature Films Competition.
3000 Nights made its world premiere in September 2015 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film is also scheduled to open the 4th edition of Luxor Arab and European Film Festival, which is to run between 30 January and 5 February, with the screening to be held at the Luxor Culture Centre.
