The Swedish Malmo Arab Film Festival (MAFF) announced the opening of the submission for films to participate in the festival via its website on 1 March, 2016.

The 6th edition of Malmo Arab Film Festival will be held between 30 September and 5 October, according to a press release published by the event's organisers.

The festival will also include the second edition of the festival’s film industry platform Market Forum that will run between 1 and 3 October.

The MAFF press release stated that the 6th edition of Malmo Arab Film Festival will introduce its first Audience Award for the best Feature Fiction and Documentary. The Festival will include an extensive film and event programme with a features, shorts and documentary competition as well as country focuses, panoramas, exhibitions and festivities.

MAFF Market Forum MMF “strives to connect the Arab and Nordic film industries by offering a meeting point filled with high-quality content that offers a wide range of opportunities to meet, network, fund film projects and form new business connections," the press release stated.

The last edition of Malmo Arab Film Festival 2015 closed with the Nordic premiere of Cairo Time in honour of the late legendary Egyptian actor Nour El Sherif, who was awarded the best actor award. The best feature film award went to the Jordanian movie Theeb.

Malmo Arab Film Festival is one of the largest cinematic events on Arab cinema outside the Arab world. It functions as a major cultural platform for collaboration between the Nordic and Arab film industries.
