Still from the official trailer of Hotel Transylvania 2
On Monday 28 March, art house cinema Zawya, in collaboration with Masreya Media, is to host a special screening of the 2015 animated film Hotel Transylvania 2, designed for the visually impaired.
The screening is to include an audio description, which adds supplemental narration to describe scenes, clothes, and body language.
The technique, which transforms visual elements in film, theatre, exhibitions, opera, and even television programmes into vivid narration, has been hailed for its innovative ability to bring visual art to those who cannot normally appreciate it.
The audio description will be in Arabic.
This is not the first time Zawya has screened films with audio descriptions, as the art house practices those screenings since 2015. This is, however, the first time that the audio description has been applied to an animated film for younger audiences.
Hotel Transylvania 2 is directed by well-known Russian-American animator and director Genndy Tartakovsky.
