The 4th Annual Iranian Film Festival will take place in San Francisco on 10 and 11 September

The Iranian Film Festival (IFF) is an annual event aiming to showcase the work of independent filmmakers, either Iranians living around the world or films that focus on Iranian cultural, political and social issues.

The festival also supports artists participating in or contributing to the showcasing of Iranian culture through their work.

This year the festival will make tribute to Ebrahim Golestan, considered the father of Iranian New Wave Cinema. On 10 September, Iranian traditional percussionist, Pezhham Akhavaas will give a performance on duff and tombak.

Films screened this year are either in English or with English subtitles. The selection includes The Brisk and the Mirror, a 1965 movie directed by Ebrahim Golestan, Zurkhaneh - the House of Strength (2010) by Federico Spinetti, About Nice After, a French production movie with collaboration of a number of directors, Iran (1971) by Claude Lelouch, Flamingo no. 13 (2010) by Hamid Reza Aligholian among many other films revolving around Iranian culture.

Held annually, the festival is an important platform for many Iranian directors as well as a way to bring the isolated country's culture to foreign audiences. The festival, however, is not the only platform shedding light on Iran, as there are a variety of meetings and exhibitions dedicated to Iran, taking place in the city around the year.
