The third Baghdad International Film Festival has announced its programme and is scheduled to kick off at the beginning of next month (2 October-6 October).
Taher Elwan, the head of the festival, said that this year will be a turning point in the history of film festivals in Iraq, as it is planned to host a diverse and rich array of films.
The festival will host Germany as guest of honour and will screen several classic and modern German films and hold lectures by German critics and filmmakers about the techniques and history of German cinema.
Another 30 countries are participating with 140 films in three different of feature-length films, documentaries and short films. A section is also dedicated to women filmmakers, which includes works by 20 filmmakers from Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Yemen and Algeria.
The theme of human rights will have its own section and a photography exhibition will be held alongside the festival.
