Khaled El-Hagar’s El-Shouq has been nominated by a committee of critics and cinema makers, chosen by Culture Minister Emad Abou Ghazi, to represent Egypt in the foreign films section at the next Oscars.
The committee included the filmmakers Magdy Ahmed Ali and Dawood Abdel Sayed, the actor Khaled El-Sawy, as well as critics Youssef Sherif Rizkallah, Yasser Moheb and Ramy Abdel Razek.
The majority of votes went to El-Shouq said by Khaled Abdel Geleil, the head of the National Centre of Cinema.
Other films competing were Ibrahim El-Batout’s Hawi, Ahmed Maher’s Al-Mosafer and Mohamed Diab’s 678.
El-Shouq cast: Sawsan Badr, Roubi, Kouki, Ahmed Azmy, Ahmed Kamal, Mohamed Ramadan, Sayed Ragab, Doaa Te’ama, and Boutrous Boutrous Ghali.
