The Egyptian short film Wintry Spring (Rabie Chetwy) was selected to screen at the ShorTS International Film Festival organised by the Matremetraggio Association. This year's edition opened Friday, 1 July, and runs until 8 July in Trieste, Italy.

The film will screen as part of the Maremetraggio section of the ShorTS festival, which selects films that are shorter than 20 minutes and that have garnered one or more awards from international festivals held during 2015.

A 16-minute film, Wintry Spring is directed by Mohamed Kamel and stars Ahmed Kamal

It has recently won major awards, including the best short and best actor awards from the Italian festival Fotogramma d'Oro.

Wintry Spring depicts a relationship between a father and his daughter Nour. In an apparently otherwise regular relationship and life, typical youth problems emerge with Nour and create a rift between the two.

Born in 1981, Mohamed Kamel is an Egyptian film director and screenwriter as well as a graduate from the High Institute of Cinema at the Academy of Arts, Cairo. He has numerous short films — fiction and documentaries — to his name, many of which were screened in numerous international festivals.

Ahmed Kamal was born in 1959, and is one of Egypt's well-known actors with a large experience of working in theatre, cinema and television series where he created numerous memorable roles. His filmography includes working with many renowned directors. Kamal also gives acting workshops.
